Catherine was surprised when Dean was waiting for her outside when she was done with her shift.
"Why didn't I see you inside?" Catherine smiled at him.
"I decided I'd like to see you someplace besides the club," Dean smiled at her.
"Ah. And why did you think I'd want to see you outside of the club?"
"We're friends, aren't we? I figured we could talk some more."
"So you're waiting out here in the cold so we can talk?" Catherine eyed him.
"I might have another motive," he settled his hands on her hips.
"Really?"
"This," Dean leaned forward and kissed her. She reeked of smoke but he could still smell her perfume underneath.
After a moment of shock, she kissed him back. She was surprised that Dean was so bold. Then again, she didn't know the older Winchester brother very well.
"Cool car," she remarked when she saw the Impala.
Dean just smiled as he held open the passenger door for her. He brought his baby to life and roared down the street to the motel.
"Sorry for the accommodations," he said as he held her door open for her to get out. "I had limited funds available."
Catherine just nodded. She thought Dean was cute.
She carefully stepped inside and searched for the light switch. When she flipped it, the color of the room accosted her eyes.
"I don't use that light," Dean shut it off and turned on a lamp. "This lighting makes the room more bearable."
"It helps," Catherine agreed. "I suppose if you only plan on sleeping here it isn't too bad. You don't need to waste time looking at the decor."
"Nope."
Dean kissed Catherine deeply and led her over to the bed. He moved so that she was comfortable on the pillows before he covered her with his body.
In the middle of all the kisses and caresses, Catherine accidentally found a knife under the pillow and drew it out.
"Wait," she halted Dean's kisses. "I want to know more about this." She showed him the knife.
"That's for protection," he took it from her and slid it under the bed.
"Protection from what?"
"Things that go bump in the night."
"Don't you get a nightlight for that?"
"These require more than just a nightlight. Don't worry, Catherine, I'll protect you."
Just the way Dean said it made Catherine believe it. She was at a strange motel with a man she hardly knew. She felt safe and protected. It didn't make sense, but it was just how it was.
After their lovemaking, they talked about Catherine's dream job and vaguely about the evil in the world. Catherine fell asleep and stayed there until morning.
Dean sat at the table drinking his morning cup of caffeine. "I got you a cup. I didn't know if you took anything with it, so it's just black."
"That's how I take it," Catherine said as she stretched. "I'm a simple gal."
Dean smiled.
They made nice conversation over coffee. Then, Catherine had to head home. They didn't know if they'd see each other again. They didn't make any plans to. Then again, some of the best things in life are surprises.
